The CS110 electric field meter can measure the vertical component of atmospheric electric field at the surface, and is applied to regional lightning disaster assessment and thunderstorm research.

The CS110 electric field meter uses a reciprocating shutter instead of the traditional rotating blade type electric field blocking. The reciprocating shutter is connected to the ground potential through a convenient stainless steel strip. The stainless steel strip operates below its fatigue limit, creating an extremely reliable ground potential connection with the shutter.

The reciprocating method can provide better low-frequency noise performance than traditional methods because it has a convenient zero electric field (shutter closed) reference, which can makeCS110 electric field meter measures and then corrects the electron drift voltage, contact potential, and leakage current measured each time.

The CS110 electric field meter also includes a circuit for measuring and compensating for insulation leakage current that occurs on the charging amplifier input, eliminating measurement errors caused by incorrect insulation. If the surface of the insulation layer becomes conductive due to pollution, the leakage current compensation circuit will generate an equal amount of reverse polarity current to the charging amplifier input, preventing electron saturation.
